Stubbs, Sally

Sally is a Vancouver, BC based playwright and educator who also directs, performs and produces. She holds graduate degrees in Writing and History in Art, works as a sessional instructor of playwriting and theatre in education, and has been a playwright-in-residence at the Firehall Arts Centre, Touchstone Theatre, the Playwrights Theatre Centre Colony, and the University of Lethbridge. Sally is a recipient of a Prime Minister’s Award for her instructional work with young people, theatre, and film.

Sally’s scripts have been described as fierce, bold, surprising, audaciously theatrical, and darkly humorous. They include: Centurions (excerpt published in Ryga: A Journal of Provocations, Number 2, Winter 2010); Playing With the Boys (Fall 2014 publication by Scirocco Drama); Herr Beckmann’s People (Scirocco Drama 2011); Wreckage (Scirocco Drama 2009); Spinning You Home; She’ll to the Wars; and Home Movies.

Scripts in progress: Wrennie and the Butthead, a commission from Green Thumb Theatre for Young People; rewrites of Jacquie, a haunting play about a contemporary teenage girl and Edgar Allan Poe; and Lori & Colt, a ‘Faustian’ piece about an educator and her mad, bad love affair with a handgun.

Sally is a proud member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, where she is currently Women’s Caucus Chair and editor of the Women’s Caucus Newsletter; Playwrights Theatre Centre; Playwrights Workshop Montreal; Wet Ink Collective; Theatre Communications Group; and Women Playwrights International for which Sally is one of two Canadian representatives.
