Welcome to Equity in Theatre

Social Action

A social action takes steps to change the things that are wrong in our society. Social actions introduce new ideas and processes for doing things better in the future.

A social action can take many forms. It might be education-based (consciousness-raising through instruction), advocacy-based (using political systems to impact policy), or community-based (working together at a grassroots level to achieve change), online, in-person, and anywhere!

Equity in Theatre wants to partner with you on social actions in your community, nationally and globally, in person and online. Here are some resources to get started.

PACT's Pledge Project

PACT and its membership are at the beginning of a major project to foster equity & inclusion in Canadian theatre – this project is one of the first steps to sectoral change. This project is for theatre companies (and PACT members) only. Take a look at the PACT's website to see the pledges that have been made or to make a pledge of your own.

Plan an Equity in Theatre Hackathon

Women artists not only recieve less funding overall, but less press coverage and 'visibility' in online databases. What can we do? Plan a Hackathon!

A hackathon is an event during which a group of people come together and ‘hack’ internet databases like wikipedia and performancewiki to increase online visibility of Women Artists from anywhere in the world!
