Welcome to Equity in Theatre

Scollard, Rose

Biography:

Rose Scollard co-founded Calgary's Maenad Theatre, a woman-centred company that aimed not only to develop new works by women but to reinstate the maenadic wild women of Greece to their rightful place in the theatrical spectrum. In 1996 she was listed as a Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, for Shea of the White Hands, a contemporary treatment of the Tristan and Isolde legend. In 1997 she was writer-in residence at University of Calgary, under the Markin-Flanagan, Distinguished Writers Programme, where she completed Caves of Fancy for an international festival at the university celebrating Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft. Her play Firebird translated into German by Ute Scharfenberg, received its German premiere at Freie Kammerspiele of Magdeburg, Germany in December of 2003 and was mounted again in December 2004.
