Maria is an award-winning playwright, based in Toronto and Berlin. She is the International Playwright-in-Residence at Tarragon Theatre and received the prestigious Kleist Promotional Award for her play 'Brandung' in 2013. 'Brandung' (English title 'Abyss') opened at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and has since been produced at Tarragon Theatre, in New York, London, and Vienna. 'Abyss' was nominated for the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play in 2015.
Maria also works as a dramaturge and translator (German - English). Some of her more recent works include: as translator: The Schaubühne Berlin's 'An Enemy of the People' (Tarragon Theatre, 14/15 and 15/16 season), as playwright: 'Peace River Country' (Tarragon Theatre, 16/17 season).
