Mullin, Laura

Biography: 

Laura Mullin is a playwright, director, producer, and the Co-Artistic Director of Expect Theatre and The Spark Collective. She graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre before forming Expect Theatre and The Spark Collective with Chris Tolley. Laura has created and produced several highly acclaimed productions that have toured nationally and internationally.

Laura’s works have been nominated for five Dora Awards in the General Theatre Category. She has also been shortlisted twice for the Toronto Arts Foundation Awards. In 2006 she won Harbourfront’s inaugural Fresh Ground Commissioning Award.

Some of her notable works include: Romeo/Juliet REMIXED (Toronto and Philadelphia), STATIC (World Stage Festival) and AWAKE (Next Stage Festival), AWAKE the film, CBC Radio drama, “The Tunnel Runners”, and “Burusera” which was commissioned by Watermark Theatre in PEI and toured across Canada to 21 cities. This fall, Burusera is being printed by the Playwright's Guild Press as part of an anthology of short plays.

In 2016, Laura and creative partner Chris Tolley launched PlayME Podcast which features new Canadian plays as podcasts for an international audience. Since its debut, PlayME has gained an audience in over 25 countries around the world including: Canada, the United States, Philippines, New Zealand, China, France, Israel, and Indonesia.

Recently, Laura workshopped her play Allowance with the support of Crow's Theatre and Nightwood Theatre through the Ontario Arts Council Creators' Reserve.
