Robinson, Judith

Biography: 

Judith has been writing plays for more than twenty years. From 1991 to 1995, she was a member of the Playwrights’ Workshop at the University of Iowa, where she had the wonderful opportunity to work with such Tony Kushner, Derek Walcott, Lee Blessing, Lanford Wilson, Megan Terry, and Irene Fornes. Her plays have been produced at the University of Iowa, at the Water Street Theatre and the Registry Theatre in Kitchener, and the Alumnae Theatre and the Walmer Centre Theatre in Toronto. Her dramas have also been broadcast throughout America through the Iowa Radio Project. And her pilot for a dramatic television series was optioned by MCTV. A short documentary of her work was televised on VISION TV on the Skylight Program, in September of 1999.  Judith has taught creative writing and journalism courses for the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies, Tyndale University, the Sheridan Institute for Technology and Advanced Learning and The University of Iowa. For seven years, she was a reporter for Canada’s national newspaper, the Globe & Mail. And she was a freelance writer/broadcaster for CBC Radio, for more than ten years. Judith’s plays are based on true stories. She is keenly interested in social justice issues—plays that explore the dynamics of the human spirit—internal conflicts, character transformations, personality development, and personal growth.
