Quayson, Jijo

Biography: 

Jijo Quayson is a playwright in Nightwood Theatre’s “Write From the Hip” program for the 2015/16 season. In addition, her current play “Osia” was selected by Nightwood Theatre and the Ontario Arts Council, to receive funding for further script development. A workshop of Jijo’s play was directed by award-winning, director, actor and playwright Djanet Sears. She is also Paprika’s Community Arts Manager, and is creating and teaching Paprika’s 2015/16 Residency Program in Regent Park.  Jijo has also showcased her work in her theatre collaboration called “Dangerlove”, which includes three other playwrights. Jijo has a Drama Specialist with distinction from the University of Toronto and was the Vice-president of the Society of Undergraduate Drama Students. In addition to her theatre involvement, Jijo is alumnae member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and has advocated for health education through her work at 211 Ontario and Youth Voices Research Group.
