Hickman, Jessica

Biography: 

Jessica Hickman is a multi-disciplinary artist, who works as an independent choreographer, director, teacher, puppeteer, and producer. While living in Victoria BC, Jessica has been lucky to have worked with companies such as The Belfry Theatre, Chemainus Theatre Festival, Theatre SKAM, Gotta Getta Gimmick, VOS, Theatre Inconnu, and Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre. She currently teaches movement to pre-professional performers at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, and the Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts. In addition to her work here, Jessica often travels to the Yukon where she is the Co-Artistic Director of a Yukon based company called Open Pit Theatre (www.openp.it). In the past year, Jessica choreographed The Tempest at Glenlyon Norfolk School, she directed and choreographed Thoroughly Modern Millie for the Victoria Operatic Society, and she was the Crowd Director for The Canadian Badlands Passion Play in Drumheller, AB. She has also been developing a new cardboard puppet show called Tombstone: A Sci-Fi Western with Ramshackle Theatre and it will be premiering at the Yukon Arts Centre in April 2016. With the help of Canada Council, Jessica has been developing a new verbatim play in the Yukon called Words of the Yukon. It is set to premier in May 2016. Next season you might see her choreography in A Christmas Carol and Puttin’ On the Ritz at The Belfry Theatre. (www.jessicahickman.ca)
