Kish, Janet

Biography: 

Janet recently left an illustrious teaching career in Toronto to become an independent director, adjudicator and acting coach with JK Productions. She is the former Curriculum Leader of the Arts and Head of Drama for the renowned Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto. She is also a staunch supporter of the Sears Ontario Drama Festival and a long-time teacher-participant and member of its Executive and Scholarship Committees. Janet is an accomplished playwright with over thirty scripts that have been produced. The Offering, one of her plays for young people is a favourite among young audiences and is included in the Sears anthology Concrete Daisy and Other Plays. Janet also co-authored the drama textbook Rattling the Stage published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson and soon to be on-line with Apple iBooks. Currently, she is running workshops for Theatre Ontario as member of their Talent Bank as well as facilitating the O pen Stage Series at the Alumnae Theatre and for students across the province. She is on the Arts Advisory Committee for Brébeuf College School. Other projects include directing for the New Ideas Festival, participating in the Directors’ Lab in Chicago and Toronto, performing in the ZED.TO trilogy produced by the Mission Business at the Toronto Fringe, Nuit Blanche and Toronto Brickworks. She is currently in the process of writing two new scripts to be produced later in 2015. one of which was inspired by her recent travels to Australia and South-East Asia.
