Close, Ellen

Biography: 

Ellen is an actor, playwright and producer based in Calgary. As a member of the Downstage Creation Ensemble, she has co-created and performed in Bus(t), In the Wake (Downstage) and Good Fences (ATP's playRites in association with Downstage), all nominated for Outstanding New Play at the Betty Mitchell Awards with In the Wake receiving the award in 2010. With Braden Griffiths, she wrote My Family and Other Endangered Species, an adaptation of Carla Gunn's novel Amphibian, which premiered in spring, 2014 at Downstage and received the Calgary Critics' Award for Best Play and a Betty Mitchell nomination for Outstanding New Play. Her play Life Below was recently workshopped at Lunchbox Theatre's Stage One Festival.
