Biography:
Elaine Avila's plays include: Quality: The Shoe Play (London, England; Edmonton; Albuquerque; Panama City), Lieutenant Nun (Theater SKAM, Victoria), Naked Singularity (at the Ontological-Hysteric Theatre, NYC), Burn Gloom (Vancouver, BC, a music-theatre collaboration involving 14 cities, all over the world). She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including Best New Play (Victoria Critic's Circle), Canada Council Millennium Grant, "New Works for Young Women" Award, a Research Grant (in Lisbon, Portugal). She is the Robert Hartung Endowed Chair of Dramatic Writing at the University of New Mexico and has taught playwriting workshops from Nanjing, China to Panama City, Panama. Affilliation: ACTRA, CAEA
