Born in Ottawa, PHOEBE WANG writes and teaches ESL in Toronto. She holds a BA in English from York University and a MA in Creative Writing from the University of Toronto. In 2015 she was the winner of Prism International's Poetry Contest in 2015. She is the author of two poetry chapbooks, Occasional Emergencies (Odourless Press, 2013) and Hanging Exhibits (The Emergency Response Unit, 2016). Her debut collection of poetry, Admission Requirements, is forthcoming with McClelland & Stewart in Spring 2017.

BRENT PEERS is a lifelong Torontonian who has been active in the Southern Ontario arts scene for nearly two decades. His love for poetry is challenged only by his passion for music. He spends his days working with technology and youth in creative fields, developing curricula for schools and community-based programs, as well as fostering young musicians alongside his own projects through his independent record label. His work has been featured on CBC Radio, at the North by Northeast music and arts festival, and in various music publications.
A staunch proponent of DIY culture, Brent hopes beyond hope to see creative minds flourish and proudly represent his hometown. He himself has helped establish, organise, and grow the WE FLIP TABLES! spoken word collective, which he has represented at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in 2012 in Sasktaoon, 2013 in Montréal, and 2016 in Winnipeg, as well as the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam in Vancouver in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Brent’s spoken word roots extend far beyond poetry slam, however, as he has been invited to speak at schools across the province and has collaborated with internationally-recognised musicians at festivals and galleries across the country. His work can be found online as well as in print, throughout numerous independent anthologies, CDs, zines, and websites... And through it all, he simply hopes you find something to enjoy.

Both Shab-e She’r and St-Stephen-in-the Fields strongly support freedom of expression and encourage our features and open-mic’ers to use any language they wish.
This event is partially sponsored by St-Stephen-in-the Fields Church.
St-Stephen-in-the Fields accessibility information:
The venue has a wheelchair ramp entrance and is all on one level; however, the wheelchair ramp door does not yet have a pushbutton, so someone needs to hold the door open. There is one fully barrier-free washroom.
All washrooms are gender-neutral.
