Welcome to Equity in Theatre

Hackathon with Womens Work Festival

Equity in Theatre’s Hackathon

Mon March 7, 12-1 pm

In honour of IWD, we are partnering with Equity in Theatre and participating in a nationwide Gender Equity Hackathon to add women creators of NL to the theatre wiki. Last years event was very successful so we have just a few left to complete the work. Volunteers are needed to research artists in advance and to input information on the day of the event. Increase the presence and visibility of Canadian women in theatre online with this 1-hour session.

Theatre and arts organizations throughout the country will host "hackathon" events to add Wikipages on the work of female theatre artists. Technical and web support will be available to the hosts from Toronto via email throughout the day. For those who have not yet visited, there is a website for the hackathon (equityhack.wordpress.com) to help participants find additional information on women in Canadian theatre.

Please publicize our hackathon on Twitter (#EquityHack) We encourage adding to Theatrewiki.ca instead of Wikipedia during the hackathon events. Wikipedia has demonstrated a gender bias in how they moderate their site and for various reasons often remove recently added pages. Theatrewiki.ca is an accessible Canadian site. We need both researchers and wiki posters (in advance and on the day) so any time you can contribute would be helpful. Coffee, snacks, and excellent company will be provided.

If you'd like to volunteer, please contact us at womensworkfestivalNL@gmail.com with HACKATHON in the subject line.
