A public debate on diversity in UK drama schools
A panel made up of Edward Kemp, Artistic Director of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Celia Greenwood, CEO of Weekend Arts College (WAC Arts), Jonathan Suffolk, Technical Director at the National Theatre, Director Iqbal Khan (whose ground-breaking production of Othello was the first RSC production to cast a black actor, Lucian Msamati, as Iago) and Casting Director Julie Harkin (This is England 90, War and Peace) will discuss issues relating to diversity and equality in drama schools and other places of theatre training and education. Act For Change are pleased to welcome back Shami Chakrabarti, formerly Director of Liberty as Chair for our third successive event.
In front of a full audience in the Young Vic’s Big Space, the panel will field questions from those who work in the industry; those who have been through the drama school system, those who haven’t, and those who are going through it currently, on topics relating to how to achieve diversity and equality in our profession, and how we can strive to greater representation on our stages and screens, in production and behind the scenes, and amongst our audiences.
