Anne Michaels’ books are published in over forty-five countries and have won dozens of international awards, including the Orange Prize, the Guardian Fiction Prize, and the Lannan Award for Fiction. She has been shortlisted for the Giller Prize (twice), the Governor-General’s Award, and longlisted for the IMPAC Award (twice). Her novel FUGITIVE PIECES was adapted as a feature film. Her latest book of poetry, CORRESPONDENCES, was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize in 2014. She is Toronto’s Poet Laureate.
Within the space of a few years, Toronto-based poet, writer and performer Bassam has grown into one of the most interesting and respected artists within the Canadian spoken word landscape. Bassam is a queer, Jewish-Arab spoken word poet from the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. He is the 2016 grand slam champion of the Guelph Poetry Slam and current member of the 2016 GPS national team. Previously, Bassam was the Burlington Slam Project's Grand Slam Champion in 2015, and a 3-time member of their national team. Bassam has participated at national and international poetry slam competitions including the 2016 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, the 2015 National Poetry Slam and Individual Poetry Slam in the United States, the 2016 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam, and the 2016 Ontario International Poetry Slam where he placed in 3rd. Bassam's latest poetry chapbook and full-length spoken word recording, 'mouth:/poem.smile', was released in the spring of 2016. His upcoming book is slated to be released by GenZ Publishing at the beginning 2017. Bassam is currently travelling across Turtle Island ("North America") for his tour, entitled 'heart:/smiles.away'.
