The Second City will host Diversity Weekend Saturday, April 30 - Monday, May 2 at The Second City Training Centre with workshops, performances and professional development opportunities for new voices and underserved communities.
On Saturday, April 30 The Second City will present a Meet and Greet with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion Dionna Griffin-Irons, and 2015 Bob Curry Fellows of Toronto, to discuss the various opportunities that are available through accessible and inclusive improv and sketch programming at The Second City.
Following the Meet and Greet is DiverCity, the monthly showcase where comedy meets culture at the John Candy Box Theatre. DiverCity will include performances by comedy trio Black Irish, a mix of sketch and improv by Impoverables, The Social Capital Theatre's diverse house troupe Fusion, Sharjil Rasool's El Wasteland, rising sketch troupe Fomosapiens, all-Asian sketch troupe Asiansploitation and The 2015 Bob Curry Fellows.
On Sunday, May 1 The Second City will offer two free workshops at the Training Centre including Intro to Sketch Writing, where participants will learn the fundamentals of character development and scene structure, and the Audition workshop with tips and tricks for those hoping to land roles on stage and screen.
On Monday, May 2 the Second City Toronto will hold auditions for the Emerging Voices Scholarship supported by Second City and NBC Universal. The recipient will be awarded one year of advanced improvisation or sketch writing training at The Second City Training Centre in Toronto.
The Second City Outreach & Diversity program is seeking talent including but not limited to those who identify as Asian Pacific, Sub Continent Asian, Black, Hispanic, First Nations, Metis, Inuk, or Middle Eastern.
