Rainbow´s Pride in Scarborough

Rainbow’s Pride in Scarborough (RPIS) is an annual event put together by a grassroots community collective. It features food, drag, spoken word, dancing and community resources.

This event was founded by Rainbow Coco Channel, a trans woman with an intellectual disability who recognized the need to create more positive spaces and to celebrate the diversity of LGBTQ+ people in Scarborough. For the past 4 years, the event has brought Scarborough’s LGBTQ community together, and has reached out to folks who are isolated, who are experiencing intersecting forms of oppression based on race, disability and economic status, and who have felt excluded from many mainstream spaces.

The event is organized by and for people with lived experiences of having an intellectual disability and identifying as LGBTQQI2S (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, Two-Spirit) and their friends and allies. Current community partners and collaborators include Access Alliance, Community Living Toronto, Griffin Centre, and Rainbow Health Ontario, TRIP harm reduction project, and other groups who have been supporting in various ways. There is no operating budget and we are always looking for funding support and sponsorships to cover the cost.
