International Women’s Week Cabaret of Monologues: Stolen Sisters

International Women’s Week
Cabaret of Monologues: Stolen Sisters

March 6– March 12
“No, I will not shut up and I will not sit down until our 1200 missing sisters are found, I will scream, I will scream and I will yell because they have been silenced.” These are the words of artist Mary Black whose spoken word piece Quiet has gone viral voicing the desire for change felt by so many in our community. This March, people around the world will be celebrating International Women’s Week and Sarasvàti Productions will mark the occasion in Manitoba by breaking the silence and giving voice to women at our popular annual Cabaret of Monologues. This year’s event is an opportunity to engage the community in the important exploration of gender-based violence and advocate for change. With ten performance pieces under the banner of Stolen Sisters, artists will use poetry, theatre and dance to explore issues of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, the mass abduction of school girls in Nigeria, celebrity rape culture, and more. We are proud to be featuring artists like Mary Black and Shamin Brown who share their powerful experiences in order to break the cycle! The lobby will also be filled with art work and ways to take action! Get tickets to the full performance of all ten pieces on March 12th at 4pm or 8 pm at the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film. Tickets are only $10.
