Blow Your Mind! - Panel: CINARS 2016

The Deaf, Disability & Mad Arts Alliance (DDMAAC) is coordinating a panel on disability aesthetics, on November 14, as part of the CINARS 2016 in Montreal.

Called Blow Your Mind!, this panel is only possible through a unique market access collaboration with CAPACOA, which is being supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.

What is disability aesthetics? How can you recognize it in performance work? And how do you prepare your audiences for it? Each ‘temporarily-abled’ person has varying degrees of familiarity (or discomfort) with disabilities, as well as abled-person centrisms and biases. And, each of these filters can engender highly personal receptions and perceptions of disability arts. This workshop will highlight ways in which presenters’ curatorial and marketing strategies can help contextualize disability aesthetics for audiences, and provide audiences with critical entry points in order to get excited about and engage with disability arts.

Panelists include France Geoffroy of Corpuscule Danse, Syrus Marcus Ware of Performance. Disability. Art. Collective, Rachel Gorman of Revolutionary Forms, and Michele Decottignies of Stage Left Productions. Learn more about the panel HERE!
