Lauren Brotman is an actor, theatre-maker, writer, artist educator and mother. Stage Credits: The Secret Mask (Theatre NorthWest), dirty butterfly (Obsidian Theatre/B2CTheatre), Phaedra’s Lust (B2C/Tapestry New Opera, LabCab), AWAKE (Expect Theatre/Next Stage Festival); Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Shakespeare in Action); Hamlet (PoorBoy Theatre) And By The Way Miss…(Theatre Direct/URGE); Apricots (SummerWorks),Ten Green Bottles (Te-Amim), Olivia in Twelfth Night (Humber River Shakespeare), A Flea in Her Ear: Understudy (Soulpepper), Antigone, No Exit (Theatre Inferno),The Complex: A Toronto Tale, Tabula Rasa, Toronto Without Words, and Rougher Trade (B2C Theatre), Twelfth Night (European Tour). Selected New Play Workshops or Presentations: The Women of Troy (Canadian Stage Festival of Creation) and with The Grand Theatre, Theatre Passe Muraille Buzz!, Threshold Theatre, fu-GEN theatre, Crow's Theatre, Harold Green Jewish Theatre, Canadian Stage; Nightwood Theatre. Awards: Lauren is a recipient of the Christopher Plummer Fellowship Award through which she trained and performed at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England. She received a Dora Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble for And by the Way Miss… and a Dora Nomination as co-creator with Judith Thompson for The Grace Project: SICK! (Next Stage Festival). She has received numerous Outstanding Performance nods from NOW Toronto as well as the Jessica Fraser Award for Outstanding Contributions to Theatre for Young Audiences. Other: Lauren is developing her play Jenny’s Room which has received workshops and readings at Canadian Stage, The Grand Theatre, Factory Theatre and LabCab. Lauren has mentored/facilitated workshops for Canadian Stage, The Grand Theatre, Theatre NorthWest, Theatre Revolve, Pleiades Theatre, Theatre Direct, the Sears Drama Festival, Alameda Theatre and the Paprika Festival. She is a graduate of the University College Drama Program at U of T, the Soulpepper Training Company, The Globe Theatre International Artist Development Program and has trained with international artists Mark Rylance, Anne Bogart and Ellen Lauren (SITI Company), Graham McLaren and Yael Farber.
